Raising Funds For Your Family Reunion
April 1, 2008
Your family reunion event is just around the
corner. Do you know where your event funds are?
By this time you have likely put deposits on reception rooms, picnic areas, tourist packages and entertainment. Ideally you would have
collected 75 to 90% of registration funds by now. But this is not a perfect world is it? If you don't have enough funds to cover the
deposit expenses don't panic. Your fellow family reunion planners
have the solution. It's time to start putting together a fundraiser.
A well-organized fundraiser can bring in as much as $500 to $5000 in just a matter of hours. Take a look at the award winning Family
Reunion Planner under "Fund Raiser" and you'll find exciting ideas for your event.
Rallying Support
How do you get family members to attend and support the fundraiser? Select a date that will allow your best participants to attend. Make
sure to invite family members at least four weeks in advance. Prioritize those who have the means to make a sizeable contribution.
Knowing what they consider valuable will help stimulate participation. Would they like to be the holder of a family
heirloom? Why not have them bid on the privilege in a silent auction?
Finding The Right Stuff
Bidding on items the attendees value is important. No, it's everything. Are some family members art collectors? It's important
to know exactly what the collector is looking for in terms of artist, period, condition, date and signature. Other requirements
may be subject matter, printing plate number, and how the art is framed and packaged. Get that information first before you start
buying art or any other collectables.
Do you have amateur genealogist, scientists, archeologists or astronomists in the family? Get the latest books on the subject.
Some may prefer outdated out of print books as a conversation piece for their club or group. Large children's picture books like Dr.
Sues, Little Bill and Blues Clues are sure to grab the kid's attention and encourage parents to participate. Vintage and latest
blockbuster movie posters are sure to be a big hit among teens and adults.
Ethnic and vintage cultural collectables are probably the most desired. Jazz CD's of any genre are sure to turn someone's head and
open their wallet. Family members who...

While Family Numbers
Dwindle Family Reunions Grow
News: July 20 2005
What’s triggering the growth in family reunion activity? What is the
catalyst that is causing the basic units of society to come together? One
of the factors contributing to the upsurge is connected to 9-11-01.
"It seems everyone knows someone who lost a friend or relative on
that day. It makes you want to hold on tight to your family, your future
and acknowledge your ancestry”, said one family reunion committee
member.
While overseas travel dropped by double digits in 2001, the number of
Americans traveling to family reunions at that time increased to 37
percent. More RVs were rented, more families traveled. One travel agency
saw multigenerational family travel and reunion-type family travel
increase for first-time visitors from 20 percent in 2000 to 34 percent in
2001.
A survey of 400 ASTA and Vacation.com members found that 67 percent
reported booking travel accommodations for family reunions within the year
since Sept 11 2001, while 64.5 percent reported an increase in requests to
book family reunion trips over the past five years. Noticing an increase
in family travel in the aftermath of Sept. 11, Sonesta launched the Our
Family Invites Your Family package.

Family Reunions Event Planning
Undergoes a Leisurely Evolution
News: July 18 2005

50 member backyard bar-b-que to the luxury liner destination,
Bahamas.
One company with its eye on the ball is offering special family reunion
package cruises and New York City show and tour on upscale luxury tour
buses featuring a night on the town with a Broadway show and dinner as the
highlight. That said, planning a family reunion for some have become about
as challenging as planning a wedding reception. Carnival Cruise Lines is
expecting a 20 percent increase in capacity.

Family Reunion Committees Get Organized
News: July 16 2005
Family reunion committees often run into communication and follow up
challenges largely due to a failure to itemize event needs and document
decisions. Family reunion organizers make all the
difference.
Many a committee member has seen to value are reunion event evaluation
sheets, activity ideas check lists, event detail sheets, site location
sheets, scheduling worksheets, committees assignment sheets, reunion needs
lists, meal planner checklists, time line preparation reminders and
believe it or not the list goes on.
But it's not just about focusing on the present. It's also about
connecting with the past.
New family reunion services have sprung up everywhere on the Internet
offering tips, tools and helpful family research aides. Included in the
mix of useful tools are genealogy research and documentation print out
sheets, family heirloom certification papers, family lineage presentation
tips, and the ability to publish your findings in photos, video and
art.
